Director Message

At the outset I would like to thank and extend my gratitude to the Government of Himachal Pradesh for giving me the responsibility of Director Principal, Rajiv Gandhi Government Engineering College, Kangra at Nagrota Bagwan to serve the divine land and get the blessings of Mata Kangra Devi and Chamunda Devi in the vicinity. Therefore, it gives me immense pleasure joining this prestigious institution on 04th January, 2018 on deputation from my parent University, Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology, Murthal. It is further fascinating that the college is located in green and serene valley in village Massal near Nagrota Bagwan at NH-154 within 20-30 Kms away from five eminent places of the region i.e. City of Kangra, Palampur, Dharamshala, Mcleodganj and Gaggal Airport.

The college was Established in the year 2014 and is fully funded by government of Himachal Pradesh. The college was awarded Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), Ministry of Human Resource Development(MHRD) grant to develop infrastructure as per mandate of RUSA. College is affiliated to Himachal Pradesh Technical University, Hamirpur, and works under the administrative control of Dept. of Technical Education, Vocational and Industrial Training, Government of Himachal Pradesh, and is approved by AICTE, India. The institute currently offers five undergraduate degree programs, namely B.Tech (Civil Engg.), B.Tech (Electrical Engg.), B.Tech (Electronics and Communication Engg.), B.Tech (Mechanical Engg.), and Bachelor of Architecture.

Presently, the college has been selected under Technical Education Quality Improvement Program(TEQIP)-III , a flagship program of Government of India, implemented by Ministry of Human Resource Development, through National Project Implementation Unit, New Delhi. The institute has been created with a vision of core themes of academic excellence, transformational learning and shared responsibility to create professional engineers who are trained to develop new technologies through innovative thinking and to be source of knowledge for solving the problems faced by community at local as well global level.

As we know that the quality education is necessary to build the nation. It is possible only when the academic activities are given utmost attention. With this in mind, I have taken up many initiatives to create the environment of better teaching and learning. It includes industry-institute interaction, improving communication and writing skills, innovation, start-up and entrepreneurship skills, emphasis on outcome based education, industrial visits, emphasis on practical learning, creation of facilities for learning through MOOC and NPTEL courses, library up gradation, awareness of our versatile culture, arrangement of motivational, GATE and remedial classes for weak students. In due course of time, I have planned to induct more staff and build more infrastructures. My endeavor shall be to introduce many more programs in this college in time to come.

Today, most of the engineering graduates coming out from various colleges are unemployable due to lack of adequate desired knowledge in the field of their profession and lack of professional attitude. In order to enhance employability, the present academic curriculum would be revised and choice based credit system would be introduced with the inputs from the stakeholders. The students would also be continuously assessed and engaged in parallel certificate programs of their interest. The efforts shall be focused on overall development of the students to bring them at par with the students of premier institutions of the country. Therefore, co-curricular and extracurricular activities would be given due weightage. Our college is in a developing stage. Each one of us needs to put in efforts to the best of their capabilities, keeping a single point programme of taking the institution forward to enable it to become the institution of national importance in future. This needs people to be accountable and responsible, stakeholders need due representation in teaching, learning and decision making. I have all hopes from the Government of Himachal Pradesh to extend full support in uplifting technical education of the state and in my stated endeavors.

Thanks and Jay Hind!
