Mechanical Engineering Department at Rajiv Gandhi Government Engineering College Kangra at Nagrota Bagwan, H.P. (India) is one of the oldest departments of the institute, since the institute was started by Government of Himachal Pradesh in 2014 with two other branches of engineering. The workshop of the department was the very first facility created by the department for the training of 1st-year students among all branches of engineering. In the recent past, the department was also approved as one of the research centers of H.P. Technical University, Hamirpur for Ph.D. programs-which shall be started by university.
As a measure of excellence – to which the department is devoted, many of the graduate students have reached positions of eminence in both government and private sectors. The Mechanical Engineering Department currently offers the following undergraduate program: 1.B. Tech. (Mechanical Engineering) – with an intake of 60 students. The B. Tech. The program is affiliated to H.P. Technical University, Hamirpur, and is approved by AICTE New Delhi. The program is fully supported by H.P. Govt. for the purpose of establishment of laboratories, and human resources. The department currently has eight (08) faculty members at various cadre levels and govt. schemes (including SWF scheme) and one (01) Lab. Assistant (SWF). All the faculty rooms are well furnished through World Bank-sponsored and NPIU implemented TEQIP-III project. The department has developed a state of the art laboratories with inputs received from senior faculty and staff of NIT Hamirpur, IIT Mandi, and industries. Some of the equipment is at par with best among those in the state. The modern CAD Lab consists of ultra-fast computers with very high specifications as available in one of the best institutions and computing labs in-country.
